XI PHI CHAPTER HISTORY

Theta Tau chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc was chartered on
December 19, 1981 at Syracuse University by Kim Smith,Deborah Allred, Pat Thomas, Audrey Jones, Tracy Mann, Tonya E. Nelson, Lynn E. Brice, and Pat Rowan. Known as the "COALESCERE" line, these women helped paved the way for increased members throughout upstate NY. Because of the sacrifices of these women, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc began to expand in the upstate NY region. In the Summer of 1987, the dream of expansion began to take place by Habiba Washington, Tonya Halloway, Adrianne Thomas, Monica Sutin, Anne-Marie Bentis Addison, Adriene Barnard, Jacqueline Johnson, Shereen Hindus, Felicia Blakeney, Mary Jo Carter, And Louisa Kendricks. They are known as none other than upstate NY "RENAISSANCE" line. These great women helped further the development process of new chapters in the upstate region. In 1984, Theta Tau chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho was established at Utica College of Syracuse University. Throughout the years Utica College chapter was always a colony of Syracuse University. With increased membership on the Utica Campus there was always a desire to establish independency from Theta Tau. Soon, This desire for independency was able to happen with the help of four young determined young ladies. On April 13,1996, Xi Phi chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc was chartered by four courageous young ladies Lashanda Adams, Nichola Selby, Catherine Warren, and Tamecha Morgan. The Illustrious ladies of Xi Phi chapter, will continue to promote greater service and greater progress. In fulfilling the dreams of our seven beloved founders.
